Every week, there is a prayer request in the Sunday bulletin for one of our mission partners, locally and around the world. This week it's African Enterprise. The primary focus of this ministry is evangelism (and they have been evangelizing the cities of Africa for more than 50 years), but they also impact those they encounter in personal and tangible ways.

African Enterprise works with at risk women in Malawi, through programs that give them marketable skills while also teaching them the Gospel. In Malawi, what started as a small group meeting in someone’s garage, has blossomed into a twice-a-year project that trains 40 women in tailoring.

AE offers a variety of skills training programs including: tailoring, fabric printing, soap making, and pastries. Each are lucrative markets and will provide women with a source of income. They are also taught basic business and life skills.

The heart behind this project is to display the love of God through not just word, but deed. The project serves vulnerable women, that is, prostitutes, widows, domestic abuse survivors, and women coming from very poor families who cannot make ends meet. They live together for six months to learn how to design and tailor clothes, and also gain life skills, on topics such as hygiene, cooking skills, and home economics. AE also provides counseling, and access to medical treatment as required. At the end of the course they are each given a sewing machine, to help jumpstart their business.

In 2017, African Enterprise partnered with Bible Society (they focus on Bible translation and distribution) to educate over 46,000 youth, teachers, parents, and community leaders in Rwanda. Not only is this project positively affecting literacy levels, the Bible-based education is providing a lifelong impact by teaching communities about what the Bible says about forgiveness and reconciliation.

Too many Africans suffer the ravages of poverty, disease, corruption and violence. Please be praying for African Enterprise as they work to transform the cities of Africa with the Gospel.
