IMG 2996Last weekend the Cathedral Choir enjoyed its annual fall workshop retreat in preparation for return to the choir loft on Kick-off Sunday. We experienced something totally different as the retreat this year was held on board the Queen Mary in Long Beach! We enjoyed a lovely private and large rehearsal room along with a separate dining area. We extend kudos to our wonderful conductor, Ariel, who presented a well-balanced selection of music including many new pieces, and to our faithful collaborative pianist, Kimo, who was his usual outstanding self. On Saturday, Pastor Joel Larson, and Brooke Coxon also visited to share and rehearse some of the music that will utilize choir and band as we move into the new combined worship format.

Workshop chairman, Susan Kanim, did a great job in facilitating and coordinating the multi-faceted logistics. Members and guests enjoyed the ambiance and charm of the ship with its fine exhibits and shops. The cuisine was certainly a major step up from previous retreat experiences with “camp” food!

Mark Roberts, accompanied by his wife Linda, was the guest chaplain. Mark’s history at FPCH, his love for the choir coupled with his own musical abilities and experiences made him the perfect addition to the weekend. His messages from the book of Colossians inspired, challenged, and uplifted us as we prepare for a new season and schedule at Hollywood.
